What he actually wants to do is again, speculation, maybe he honestly just wanted to talk.

Maybe he wanted to beg to become a reaper again, maybe he was attempting to kill the fireplace for abandoning him, who knows. Then back to Skeleton tape 3, which I imagine is the first time he enters his house after he presumably killed himself (since that's how skeletons are formed) where he's feeling the horrific cold of being undead and he's beyond desperate to speak to his "friend" the fireplace, so desperate he's clawing away at the damn wall to reach it. He would just sit around staring at the mould on his ceiling, waiting for the fireplace to light up. The secret hard mode tape I can only assume is Izban when he was a reaper and it makes it pretty obvious that all he lived for was his missions and the fireplace. entirely speculating here but I imagine it's some sort of pseudo-life giving drug/fuel, combine that with a buttload of dead bodies. There's also a lot to suggest that the meat/flesh is necessary, how the ash is necessary I'm not sure but since the tapes seem to suggest it brings back some warmth, so.

I say decieved because Skeleton tape 3 hints that Izban used to be a reaper, so he would know full well that the fireplace hates undead. Skeleton tape #1 in particular seems to imply that Izban decieved the others by telling them it was a place they would be embraced by someone's warmth for he loves every one of them. Izban wanted to go there to see the fireplace, he describes it as his "friend". I've tried to reference everywhere I can but I don't claim it all to be fact, this is just what I think happened so take it with a grain of salt. Also, this is a spoiler discussion so don't say "say spoiler first" I guess that the dust and the bodies are some sort of fuel or building material for the portal, but why did they want to go to candle world? They were all slaughtered anyway. Yeah, I get the premise of the game, but I'm not sure about the whole huge portal and everything. Maybe beforehand, but they meant what actually happens story-wise throughout the events of the game. That's.not really what happens in the game at all. Throughout the game you get a sense of the sort of desperation to all of this. In any case, the various strata of undead were getting too rampant for the Fire to ignore, growing in size and number, and you're there to help out. Perhaps the Fire had been neglecting its duties for too long, or its minions simply were stretched too thin. As far as I can tell, you're the assigned executioner of a sort of immortal/force of nature which has recently moved into town. Originally posted by Michael Fassbender:Hm.
